Well here is how it is, I fried one mic owing to using a unregulated 12volt PSU, I have now got a replacement mic and have attached a standard 9volt battery onto it to test (the ones you find in a standard smoke detector), it now works fine but I do have an irritating hum which I guess is an earthing issue, by putting a regulated PSU onto it will this hum disappear ?
No I don't think so either it's getting it somewhere I wonder if I earthed out the screen of the 4 core cable coming from the cctv recorder in the loft that would eliminate it ?
As has been said fitting a microphone has implications in terms of how your system is viewed legally. Make sure you understand the rules.
It could be that your microphone is the wrong impedance for the DVR. You need to know the input requirements of the DVR. It could also be cable related. Try using a length of CAT5 as the twists are resistant to interference.
