CCTV to phone.

What about any old IP camera or online capable DVR, in conjunction with an external PIR or break beam detector connected to an auto dialler?

Neighbour activates the PIR or beam, which causes the auto dialler to phone or text the home owner, who can then log straight onto the CCTV and see whats going on.

It's not the most elegant soloution, but it'll work, and won't break the bank.

Yes I guess that would work and be reliable. I'd rather he went somewhere else really. Why do I get stuck with the ones that no-one else wants?

I think I've seen a DVR which can email you stills if a PIR etc is activated, but I've never had any experience with them. I'd try and pass the buck too if it was me.

Sorry to interject but why wouldn't you just advise you are not the man for the job rather than passing the buck?

I'm not having a go but I've had so many bad experiences with tradesmen who tried to overprice things or fob me off rather than just save me the time and say its not something he is interested in.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure you get terrible customers with unreasonable expectations too but it just seems that life would be better for us all if we were just honest from the outset.

Because it's only a small part of the job and involves many variables such as camera type, software, phone type. dvr type router type etc. I can still do the job and then tell him to get his local PC doctor in to sort out the software side.
