Hi all

I've been painting ceilings (wickes trade matt white) to a great finish, but with the hot weather, the ceilings have cracked along the plasterboard joins.

I've filled in with lightweight filler and repainted, however, with a little house movement they have re-appeared.

What options/products are there that the pros use to stop the cracks (even if it's only for 6 months) as it's quite soul destroying seeing my lovely work with a hairline crack in the next week

Hi Ken

I can't tell, it's quite weird, it's a single layer of paint on something like a white layer, and then the plaster, the house was built in 1960's so Lord knows what was used..

I've got a knife and scraped off the peaks in the paint to flatten the join down, it looks like someone has jumped up and simply run another line of paint over the existing line. I might pva along the lines and then mix up some emulsion/pva mix before I do the undercoat

SwitchTheElectricsOff, good evening.

A question?

Is there any "scrim" in the plasterboard joint plaster?

Ken

Toupret Fibacryl is a great crack filler. I buy the tubes rather than the tub version. Gun it in to the cracks. Smooth it off and then use a damp rag to remove any surplus. It will shrink back so once it has done so, apply your lightweight filler and then sand that back.
