ceiling joist question

I'm doing some alterations to the upstairs room layout in my house and doing preparations for the plasterers to come in to board & skim.
simple question relating to the ceiling....As you can see in the pic the first joist in this room is some 4-5inches from the stud wall. Will this unsupported gap be ok for the ceiling boards or do I need to add timber.
