Ceiling light / Dimmer switch

Hi

I've had a ceiling light working with a dimmer switch for over 3 years.
Last week, I turned the light on as normal and the ceiling light seemed to ping/flash.
I tried changing the bulbs - still didnt work
Today I bought a complete new replacement light fitting and replaced it (exactly the same one as i bought before) - and it still doesnt work.

Could it be the dimmer switch that has blown? or any suggestions as to what the problem could be?

Assuming you have wired the new ceiling light correctly I would start by replacing the dimmer with a normal switch.
If this works then clearly the dimmer has gone south!
If it doesn't then you will need to do some testing with a multimeter.
