how do you connect a 3 bulb light fitting to the cables coming from the mains ie we have 3blue 3brown 3earth from the ceiling and on the light fitting i have a connection block of three also a separate block also the light has a separate earth

yes 1blue is sleeved brown the separate conector block comes with the light along with a 3conector block

The block on its own, you need to connect all 3 browns together and nothing else.
The 2 blues go to the neutral connection
1 blue with brown sleeve goes to the L connection
All the earths connect together and to the earth terminal.

yeah, so you only have one earth terminal in which you have to fit all 3 earth wires from the supply?
Then it is as I said before:

All 3 brown wires from your light fitting must connect to the blue wire with the brown sleeve on it. You can do this by fitting the blue wire with one of the brown wires at one side of the terminal block and fitting the other 2 brown wires onto the other end of the same brass cylinder in the terminal block (so they are all connected together)
You then do the same with the remaining blue wires: connnect all of them (light fitting and ceiling wires) together using both ends of a terminal block cylinder.
All earths must connect together.
You will also have another 2 or 3 brown wires from the ceiling cable connected together. Don't disconnect them. Do not connect any other brown wires to them.
