Hello
We have bought a new light for our living room. The current light is wired off a ceiling rose but the new light does not fit the rose so I want to remove it and wire directly to the light.

Can someone advise how to remove the wires and place correctly in the new light including the loop?

I have included a photo of the existing ceiling rose and how it is currently wired up

Thanks

The ceiling rose has a duel role, it both holds the light to the ceiling and act as a junction box for cables, you can get junction boxes specially made to combine all the cables into one wire

or you can get special ceiling roses which include hooks,

which method you use is up to you, there are many methods, so leaving a better job to others, we normally consider this when buying the light fitting, in an ideal world we would have plug in ceiling roses throughout the house and be able to buy lights with the plug already on them, however at the moment that has not happened, in the UK we normally have power at the ceiling rose all the time as well as switched power, this has a few advantages, emergency lights and ceiling fans have power and the loop impedance is lower, in the rest of Europe the power tends to be taken switch to switch, this may help some times where special switches need a neutral but in the main our method is better.
