Ceiling rose wiring

The fact you have a grey wire would suggest you have three core (grey black and brown) and earth. Is the wire with the brown sleeving black?

If so then fit grey with blue sleeve to neutral (blue).

Just check at the switch what colour arrangment you have there.

What's that yellow thing above the rose?

It looks like a crimp or a taped joint for the browns.
You should put these wires in the unused centre terminal.

It would seem the grey wire with the blue sleeve is neutral.

It would appear the black is sleeved with brown and going to L, which looks right.

For god's sake do something about all that exposed copper wire on the blue. Either it needs trimming or you haven't got the wire in the terminal properly.

The grey outer sheath of the cables should just enter the base of the ceiling rose.

If any of the ends of the wires are brittle from the old connection, strip back to new solid copper to prevent the ends breaking off.

Make sure the power is completely off before starting work.
