A basic question from an amateur. I am about to use a hired cement mixer, ie, for fairly small quantities for some brickwork and path concrete. Some people say that the water should go into the drum first, then the sand, and then the cement. When I mix by hand, I usually add the cement to the sand, then the water, therebye, I think, giving the sand & cement a chance to adhere together before becoming wet. Does the initial mixing matter or, is there an accepted procedure to give a good batch of cement ? Any comment/advice much appreciated.
