We have started to renovate an old house and wish to rewire update an elderly central heating system. We do not have the spare cash to purchase a new system. The boiler works ok, the hot water cylinder works ok but the wiring definitely needs sorting as do the controls on the system. The motorised valve is shot, the system is indirect heating, with a pumped supply to either heating or hot water, (have to operate manually now). There are 3 thermostats on the system, 1 to boiler flue temperature, 1 to boiler water temperature and 1 to hot water temperature. We want as said to put modern controls on this system, room thermostats, boiler timer controls etc. can anyone help?

I fitted my house with central heating from scratch about 15 years ago, and never had a problem, and had never done it before. I got all the set-up from DIY books and all the gear on line. You need a good well drawn plan of the layout and of what you will need, and then get down to it.
The wiring is not too hard but can be testing and you will need a big junction box for all the pump, motorised valve etc. connections. But again they are on line with all the illustrations that you will need.

All plumbing wholesalers supply kits from the major control manufacturers. These contain all you need = controller, valves, junction box, thermostats etc.
