I have problems with the soakaway on my septic tank, I have been emptying it with a bucket on a rope (cant be repaired for 2/3 weeks).
Can I use an old central heating pump to raise the water 5ft?

The pump would lift 5' OK, but they don't like pumping water with any solids.....much better to hire a foul water pump I think, and lob it in.
It'll be empty in no time.

Yep, that will do fine so long as its not for continuous duty.
I don't go for the lay flat hose personally - I bought some polythene reinforced stuff from B&Q......much better when the pump is down the hole!
Garden hose would be fine, but of course the traditional green stuff is too small in diameter.

(I would imagine your C/H pump wouldn't self prime).

Bought the pump & washing machine hose, hose not long enough, had some old drain pipe so let the water run down that. Brilliant job.
Strange that screwfix don't sell the pipe.
