central heating wont turn off!

hi there wondering if anyone could help me my central heating has decided it wants to stay on even if the thermostat is turned right down,the only way that it will stay of is when i turn the boiler of at the mains could any one piont me the right direction on this matter as i dont no were to start looking thanks

does it go off when the hw does? if so could be the valve letting by, if not I'd agree with mman, although the spindle may be seized and causing the micro switch to stay closed.

Do you have a 3 port valve, or 2 2port valves?

When you turn the power off at the fused outlet, can you hear a motor it a/the valve returning back to closed (2 port) ot HW (3 port)?
