The Chagos islanders don't want to be governed by Mauritius, and almost everyone thinks the deal suggested to hand them back is a massive stitch up. The UK is skint, so why not do what someone suggested and flog them to Donald Trump. Could be a win win.

That's exactly what Reform UK suggested yesterday in the House of Commons.

In the context of countries, what does "skint" even mean?

If you think that we are skint, do you think 'Murca is less skint than we are?

Both honest and genuine questions :)

Skint as in we can't look after our own. No money to solve the homeless problem, NHS on its knees, police numbers cut, pensioners fuel payments cut, prisons overcrowded, etc etc etc. On the other hand, we seem to have enough to hand out to foreign countries and house all their unwanted in hotels, so who really knows if we are skint or not. No idea what a "murca" is so I can't comment on that.

Be honest
The miserable old duffer has just read you the standard pensioner gripe from the Daily Wail hymn sheet - verbatim.

Honest, my arse.

Looks as though the Donald is going to OK the Chagos deal, subject to closer examination.

It’s going too well for the PM, maybe the state visit will help, but in the long term we cant trust the USA any longer. So much for the dreams of brexxers.

...an honourable mention for that list is the state of our armed forces. An ITV prog last night showed how reduced our fighting capability has become in the last 25 years.
The smallest army since the end of the Napoleonic Wars...just enough artillery shells stockpiled for about a fortnights combat capability. No wonder the govt. needs to increase spending. And even then, i seriously doubt our battle readiness should they be required to step up.

Not a dream. A trade deal with the US without tariffs.....a remainer nightmare :)

Canada and Mexico have a trade deal with the USA. And that hasn't stopped extra tariffs being imposed on a whim.

That is the point being made. It's about trust.

As usual, the brexiteer ignorance...

The devil is in the detail...

And when you deal with the devil you know you are going to get shafted!

Well the intelligent 'remainers' know that ;)

But feel free to come back to us when those details about selling out the NHS etc are revealed...

The insignificant UK may well actually be the devil's '51st state' wish...

And brexiteers as always will have scored an own goal !

Edit:

"Health secretary Wes Streeting has stressed that the NHS is “not on the table” in any US trade deal, and that it is “not up for grabs”.

It comes after Donald Trump said he had “great discussions on trade” with Sir Keir Starmer and expressed confidence that a deal could be reached “rather quickly”.

The US president said the two countries have a “very good chance” at arriving at a good deal, adding “the people are working on it... it could be terrific for both countries”.

You know when something is 'denied' it most definitely is on the table!

It is up there with 'having the utmost confidence' in someone who is just about to be thrown to the wolves!
