Chagos Islands, a solution?

Not looking like the US support the deal.

What on earth is really going on:

This post from Trump comes just hours after the US government said it supports the deal the Starmer government struck.

A spokesperson for the US state department said overnight: "The United States supports the decision of the United Kingdom to proceed with its agreement with Mauritius concerning the Chagos archipelago.

It's the cost of Sir Quare's lawyer friends.

Greedy, stinking rich socialist lawyers.
Check out Patriotic Millionaires UK, champagne millionaires the lot of them
A bit like how Two Tier's vast, public sector pension is protected by a special law just for him.

Labour... always ripping off the ordinary folk... and fooling the untermensch into voting for them.
Irrelevant either way.

... other scum on an international kangaroo court told us to...
You mean the International Court of Justice?
If the UK continued to ignore the ICJ judgement, it might be subject to further UN action.
If and when you're wrong it's best to admit it, and move on sooner rather than later and incur further costs.

Are they on opposite sides?
Philippe Sands represented the Chagos IsIanders, and Richard Hemmer advised on the Human Rights perspective.
They both worked against the UK government in the interest of the Chagos Islanders.
They are both very experienced in their respective roles.

Philippe Sands KC
  • Mauritius: Sands is famously the lead counsel and chief legal adviser for the Mauritian government in its long-running dispute against the UK over sovereignty of the Chagos Islands.
  • International Clients: He has acted for numerous states, individuals, and organizations in international courts, including cases related to the International Court of Justice (ICJ)
Richard Hermer KC (Lord Hermer)
  • Chagos Islands: Hermer was involved in advising on the deal to cede sovereignty of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius.
  • Human Rights and Individuals: As a barrister, he represented various clients against the British government

I think so. I was trying to get my head round it.

Sands is working for Mauritius and Hermer is working for the British government.
Both lawyers have been involved in opposing the British government in international and domestic human rights cases prior to Hermer's appointment as Attorney General in 2024.

"Might be subject to further UN action..."

How terrifying. Like what?

Naive people like you following the judgements of bent people representing their own nations on a court that we can ignore if it suits us. You are gullible.

Are you stupid? His name is in the title and his name is mentioned again following your bold text. The regulation is to protect Too Kweer's massive, publicly funded pension in ways that the general public do not benefit. Classic socialist lawyer, classic Labour politician. That's the memo.
