hi

i have a chainsaw which comes out every year to remove branches ect.
there is a problem in that when i pull the trigger to throttle it it dies but is fine ticking over if left. its like it wants to rev up but gives up.

First thing to try if it's been left for a year is a fresh tank of petrol. Drain the old stuff completely out.

Presume it's a 2 stroke motor so make sure you're adding 2-stroke oil to the fuel. Mix it up in a separate container, then add it to the fuel tank on your chainsaw. Best to have one can for clean unleaded, then another can for pre-mix. Sorry if you already know this, but it's amazing how many people don't.

After that, leave it idling till it will run without any choke. Then try rev'ving it.
 
It sounds as if it is running too lean probably caused by an air leak. Look for leaks in the fuel line and carb gaskets.
