Hi, I really am hopeless at this type of stuff so I'm hoping that someone could help! I'm from Ireland but I'm guessing electrics etc. are the same as the UK.

I have a door bell that has stopped working. The bell push itself and the wiring is perfect and has been tested. The only other possible problem could be the transformer which is contained inside the consumer unit. I have searched local DIY's, electrical retailers and online to find a replacement but to no avail.
I have enclosed pictures, does anyone know an online retailer or other that would have the right transformer?

The second part of this is how do I replace the transformer once I have got a new one! I'm worried about playing around with the consumer unit and shy of yanking the thing out, I havent a clue where to start!

Thanks for any help that can be provided. View media item 35415 View media item 35416

I'd start with a multimeter and check that there's 12v at the output of the transformer.
If there isn't then DIN rail door bell transformers are pretty common things, you should be able to pick one up at any electrical wholesaler. While you are there pick up some consumer unit blanks for either side of the transformer so you can't stick your fingers in!
Obviously make sure the power is off before carrying out any work, check it is isolated by using a proven isolation tester.
The main thing with the transformer is to make sure is you do not mix up the input and output when replacing it as when you power it on it won't be nice!

While you're there see if you can pick up some blanks to fill in those gaping holes....
