Changing pull cord to kinetic WiFi switch

Hi there. I’ve searched everywhere but unable to find anything that relates to my setup.

1. Currently pull cord in a bathroom

One twin and earth going from a junction box to the pull cord.

One twin and earth going from a junction box to a light fitting.

Junction box is a surewire pre wired box; each room has L1 (t&e&l), s2 (t&e&l).

I need a permanent live. Junction box has power in and out already in use. Shall I just use wagos to tap into it? Doesn’t L1 rely on a permanent feed from JB?

I was also thinking about going by permanent feed from isolator switch for bathroom fan. That had permanent live as it comes to isolator.

Any advice appreciated.

If all you are doing is replacing the pull switch with a kinetic then I'll guess all you need to do is wire the kinetic receiver in place of the switch.

Either remove the existing cable from the junction box and use another piece to wire in the kinetic receiver, or cut the existing cable.

If you are doing something different, let us have more detail.

I appreciate your response. I’m only trying to get rid of pull cord, so I can have Alexa controlled wireless switch for bathroom instead of pull cord.

My plan was to go to the loft and expect to see pull cord wired in a way where it’s a one wire in to pull cord and one wire out form a pull cord to the light. It’d be easy swap. I’ve seen however it’s all two cables from junction box.

However, pardon me, chafgpt suggestions suggest that my initial plan won’t work as kinetic receiver requires l and n but pull cord has l and n (but n used as switched) - I might be wrong. I might be right, hence I’m trying to confirm with someone more knowledgeable than me.

If I could literally remove pull cord and it’s wire would go into l in and n in on the kinetic receiver it would be good. Then I’d take out wire from a junction box that goes to the lamp to put in the l out and n out for the light.

Thanks

Does anyone might suspect that I could use L1 from surewire pre wired box as perm feed for the receiver?

That is what you must have - though via the junction box.

It’d be easy swap.
The switch has a Permanent Line(live) but it won't have a Neutral.

Yes, but it is just a junction box connecting the two cables.

Thanks for your time.

It does come out as l&n&e from junction box (L1) to pull cord (l&n&e).

What I so far researched:

Supply (Surewire L1) (currently feeding pull cord)

L from junction box ─────────> Receiver L in

N from junction box ─────────> Receiver N in

E from junction box ──┐

├── WAGO ───>

Receiver output: currently in a junction box acting as switch line. To be removed from junction box and:

L ─────> Kinetic L out ─────> Lamp Live

N ─────> Kinetic N out ──> Lamp Neutral

Earth to wago so it’s connected together for continuity.

Does this make sense at all?

Put the receiver next to the junction box
Yeah that’s the plan. But I was unsure if I can take whole supply to the jb and split it in wago so I can have one extra perm feed to that receiver.

It’d be much simpler if l1 (l&n&e) would have perm feed and neutral so I’d literally swap cable from pull cord into receiver and remove s1 it from junction box to go as out of the receiver. Sorry if I got it all wrong..

If you know which cable in that JB feeds the light in question you can remove it and feed the receiver with it.

Then remove the pull cord cable
permanently

Sorry I think I've got that wrong...

You would feed the receiver from the junction box connections then feed the light from the receiver and link the switch connections in the Junction box.....I think.

Current setup attached (pull cord).

Attached what I was thinking about too. I know which cable goes where as I can trace it in the loft.

Thats right, first try it with the pull cord turned on, if that works remove the cable and fit a link.

How it’d try it with a pull cord on, since I’d be removing cable from pull cord to go into IN in the receiver? Thank you.
