Was a lovely old 17c pub.

Sparky drilled through a gas pipe and then woke up on the pavement several yards away.

Its a block of flats now

excuse me whilst I don`t believe you - do you have a source?

No insult taken.
One should always check references/sources etc.

I drove past the pub that afternoon. Long after the bang luckily!

do a search for Coltishall.
Preferbly, speak to any one in the HSE and they'll give you the full story!

Gas
UPDATE A gas worker who was hurt when an explosion destroyed a Norfolk pub has been awarded £230,000 in compensation. The man was working for gas company Transco when he was called to investigate a gas leak near the London Tavern in Coltishall in May 2003. While he was investigating the leak there was a huge explosion, which destroyed the pub and threw him off his feet, landing several meters away. He suffered injuries to his neck and post traumatic stress order and has not been able to return to that work since the blast. He was awarded the six figure compensation payout against a company which cut through a gas pipe while laying cable in Coltishall.

So not really...

Sparky drilled through a gas pipe and then woke up on the pavement several yards away.

...then? Your original description seemed to suggest an electrician drilling through a low pressure gas pipe inside the pub, not contractors digging through a high pressure gas main!

Sparky drilled through a gas pipe and then woke up on the pavement several yards away.

Above quote was from HSE and was also in the local newspaper.

If you infer, low pressure and inside that is up to you.

Regards pressure and pipes I think thats academic. Isn't a gas main a pipe?

The report in the accident report is quite vague.
Only one man was injured, and he was "investigating."
What else can you conclude?

i dont think the HSE use the word "sparky" .......

however

"a company which cut through a gas pipe while laying cable in Coltishall ." it there in black and white - so not "a sparky drilling a hole" at all as you first said, you`ve only had 6 years to get the story straight.
