Hi everyone I am looking to remove the chimney breast in my living room and first floor bedroom and then gallows brackets in loft, the reason is the neighbours are extremely noisy I can hear all of there conversations and loud music i feel the wall behind

chimney is not complete, Also after chimney is removed I will look at soundproofing the whole wall. Could anybody help advise on the procedure as I am finding it difficult to find a specialist firm in London who deals with chimney removals. As far as I am aware I need to
1 Get structural engineer for drawings
2 Apply to building control
3 Get party wall act
4 Get the building work done

The chimney in the back reception room has already been removed 15 years ago, any advice or help would be great thank you

1. I've never asked for calcs/engineers drawings, nor has anyone else at any of the LA's I've worked for this type of work, but can't speak for your particular LA b Control. There's no reason why you shouldn't if you want it for peace of mind
2 - 4. OK
I'm not sure why you are doing it to reduce sound transmission I can't imagine it making any difference.
Most general building contractors should be capable of this type of work, I've never come across a specialist for this type of work.

Think you might be disappointed with the results in terms of neighbour noise.
Have a search on here, there are loads of threads. If the noise is mainly conversation/music (airborne) you need to look at gaps round the floor joists at both levels, do they leave their windows open, have they got a massive telly just the other side of the wall...its a complex one to fix
