We live in a 2 storey Victorian terraced house and want to remove the chimney breast at the back of the house at ground and first floor levels. Our neighbours still use their chimney at the back. Is it possible for us to do this without affecting the integrity of their chimney? What party wall agreement would we need to obtain from them? They are lovely neighbours and we want to do things properly! I understand we would need a structural engineer and building regs to get it signed off.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated!

Firstly you need to inform your neighbours concerned, of you intentions, this would be best done by letter.
Then get your structural engineer in to do the calculations on what is needed for the work to be completed safely and to regulations. Before builders and and building controls get involved, if building controls are needed, you will or your builder will need to notify them of the work being carried out.
Link to party wall act, could find the guides useful.
