Chimney Breast

Hi All, Im having a recess built for a TV around a chimney breast which has a letter box style opening. Should I seal this off with roof tiles from the inside or should it be ventilated? Is it ok to simply build the plasterboard recess around it without doing anything? If I decide to keep the hole where the gas fire was do I need to fit some kind of damper?
