Hi,

I am currently having my roof reslated and my chimney stack rebuilt.

My original chimney stack had a ladder on the side (very old and rusty). I have asked the workers to put a new ladder on the new chimney so that I can still have access to the chimney pots if I need to BUT they are telling that it is not needed>>

Should I get one or is it a waste of money???

thanks

I can not think of a single reason, in the last 9 years, to go visit my chimney.

This does not apply to everyone, but, it is not the obvious choice for an access ladder.
A loft - yes.
A chimney - no.

most stacks had ladders for access for chimney sweep to clean from top. id say your wasting money as work thats getting done should keep you good for years to come. chimney can be roded from bottom if needing cleaned if still in use. any major problems would require scaffold so no need to waste money.
