Morning all,

Next problem to tackle.

Old chimney was rendered years ago ( not sure when) and I had it stormdried 2 months ago but water is still tracking through the brick work and then running down the face inside the loft. 100% sure it is not a problem with the roof all soakers in place etc. Not using the chimney at the moment and when i will I'll rebuild the chimney or twin wall flue for a wood burner.

I'm positive the chimney has no lead tray in it and the bricks below roof line are turning back to clay!

I'm going to take the chimney down (top to bottom) below roof line only but want to know will I still need to vent the top of the opening in the loft or can I just cap it with ply or something else. Not really keen on warm air blowing from the rooms below, up the stack an into the loft. Or should I block both top and bottom.

Any advice?

Cheers

I vented mine in the loft and from below to maintain air flow. Others just cap it. Maybe vent it externally through an air brick on the remaining part of the flue.

Blup
