Chimney Support Bracket

Hi

I had a chimney support bracket fitted today. The bracket attaches to a sold brick wall (9"). The wall is a gable wall

I specified that it be painted in red oxide paint.

However, part of the bracket are not painted in red oxice and indeed some parts were installed with a thin coat of rust. See photos

Hmmm.

I can paint exposed parts of the bracket with red oxide myself. However, where bracket is facing the wall it is not possible to get a paint brush in to paint it with red oxide, might be able to pour paint in behind the bracket, but far from ideal

To be honest, if you call them back, they will simply coat the rest of it with red oxide.
If you want them to do the complete coverage, they will need to remove it, (and all it entails to do so), and will undoubtedly charge you for it.
I'd paint the exposed parts myself and not worry about it. If it is dry up there then it will outlive you probably. Steel only tends to corrode rapidly in wet surroundings.

Internal steelwork in a heated building without condensation risk doesn’t require any corrosion protection - slap some paint on it if it makes you feel better.

Sounds like the bigger issue is whether you have specified and paid for something that the builder has not provided?

No noseall, the house has some damp issues so it need to be managed thats why I wanted red oxide on the bracket, like most off the shelf brackets have

Maybe you should have specified hot dip galvanised, just to be sure... only kidding - hot dip galv does get used on structural steel fabrications which are to be installed in exposed positions, such as balcony frames and the like
