Hi All,

I have a floor which is 22mm tongue and groove chipboard that then becomes 22mm tongue and groove floorboard. A bit of a redesign and opening up the house means this is going to be a kitchen and I want to tile.

Can I get away with putting something like 9mm ply over the whole area and then tiling on top.

Advice welcomed. Thanks in advance

It is normally recommended to use 18mm WBP plywood on top of chipboard, but I did mine with 12mm. The chipboard should be screwed to the joists at 300mm centres, then 12mm ply screwed at 150mm centres. You must use flexible tile adhesive and prime with the recommended primer. My floor has been down for 4 years now with zero problems.
