Choosing a solid internal door

I've had £15 B&Q moulded doors and am replacing them with something more solid looking and with a real grain.

I'm looking at these two and apart from the priming is there a reason why the latter may be a better door?

are you going to paint it, or varnish it?

Fire doors are heavy and feel solid, they are also more sound-proof.

I went for these from Wickes, it is the best price I could find, and made by Premdoor. I also went for lift-off hinges since these heavy doors are tiring to refit when planing or redecorating. Mine are 6-panel but they do a 4-panel as well. You will have to move the stop as they are thicker (44mm) than your cheap hollow door (35mm). If you buy 5 you get a reduced price. They are available smooth in white primer, or with an embossed fake wood grain which I do not like.

They also have panelled fire doors in pine or in oak veneer at higher price but very attractive if you want them stained and varnished.

Once you have tried these heavy solid doors you will never be happy with a hollow or lightweight one.
