Hello All,

I am fitting two new rads, I would like to drop chrome covered pipe from the valves through to the fittings under the boards.

Can this be done with pre-soldered fittings, I mean will the solder hold on the chrome pipe ?

Or are they just for push-fit only ?

Many thanks for any advice,

Stoyer

If your new to soldering then give it a miss, other option is a compression fitting to get you from copper to chrome,do not use any pushfit fittings on chrome.

Or you can now buy chrome sleeves to go round you copper pipe,if fitted correctly they dont look bad.

You will need to remove the chrome plating from the piece of pipe you wish to solder, using a file, sandpaper, wire wool etc.
A few turns of PVC tape just above the area you are cleaning up will help mark out the job, and preserve the chrome there in case you get carried away.

Many advise removing the plating for compression fittings too, so the olive can 'bite' onto the pipe with less chance of it moving.
