No I work on the theory its just going to get dirty again.

If it's the same as the S8 aluminium, you can take it off, buff it up to a shiny finish and re-lacquer it, but it's a fair job of work!

"Plastic chrome" reminds me of the trim round windscreens on the old "proper" Minis, that always went like yours. I bet your new piece of trim will be expensive.
