circuit tester/continuity tester

Toolstation catalogue automotive section,they have a circuit tester and a continuity tester ,are they the same thing ,they look the same.
 
Not really - the continuity tester uses its own battery to power its
lamp, so you can look for breaks in dead cable.....the circuit tester lights up when it detects a voltage between 6 and 12v, using the vehicle power.

The circuit tester usually has two led's + & - to indicate the polarity of the current, if used on AC then both led's will light.
