Cistern inlet leak.

I have just installed a new Wickes' bathroom suite (The Charm Suite).

All has gone well with the exception of the inlet seal inside the cistern. I cannot make this watertight using the recommended method of tightening by hand and then a half turn with a spanner. I want to know if I can use silicone sealant here as have read that it may damage the plastic. Can anyone help, please?

you can but when you tighten it the rubber washer is liable to slip out

put about 3 turns of ptfe on the thread and then put the rubber washer on - the water is creeping down the threads past the rubber. just like it did on inspection holes on galvanised hot water tanks - used a wisp of hemp on them

Sounds sensible, but I have now used silicone sealant - Hope I don't live to regret it!
