Cistern - Left or Right inlet

Afternoon.

Hopefully, an easy question to answer. I am trying to choose a toilet to fit existing pipework, but when choosing a left or right inlet cistern, is the left and right based on looking at the toilet head on or based on sitting on it??

I think it’s by looking at it. There are some cisterns you can get which can be either.
