I’m looking for a little advice before cladding my garage with feather edge to improve its appearance. Being as it is of rendered brick construction, am I correct in believing no vapour barrier is needed before put up the battens and cladding? Just to say the garage is a stand alone structure and isn’t heated.

Also, what sort of overlap should I be looking for on 175mm cladding?

Thanks,

Rob

No VB required. But you might want a membrane if the building currently experiences penetrating damp.

25mm minimum overlap for horizontal feather edge.

Yes it does currently suffer from penetrating damp which is mostly caused by my neighbour having earth up against the wall which is about a foot above the damp course. Spoke to him today and been told it’s going to be sorted.

I was thinking of a 30-35mm overlap so this goes well with what you recommended.

Many thanks
