In order to avoid maintenance, I thought I'd use roofing felt. However, I imagine the weight will cause it to rip through the clout nails eventually. The walls are made of OSB. Could I use torch on felt? or could I paint the walls with felt adhesive and stick normal felt on...........or will the whole lot eventually slide down the walls after a few years?

You're right Alastair, but as it's up against a fence I'm happy with nasty, those shingles look good, I wonder why the yanks and Canadians don't use roof tiles/ slates like we do in europe?

DIYedboy,

They do. There are examples of felt shingles and clay and concrete tile cladding on both coasts and in Vancouver BC.
Not to mention the endless shake and split cedar and redwood shingle claddings.

I had always been led to believe that it was due to the weight of those roofing materials due to the additional weight of snow. I know that my relatives in Finland all have zinc roofs for this reason :)
