Cleaning lead flashing

Part of a job will involve cleaning some lead flashing - NOT painting, just cleaning. The problem is, the flashing has been stained by wasp nest spray/killer dripping from the fascia onto the flashing (or so I'm told). I've read all the posts about lead oxidising etc, and using patination oil - but does anyone know whether patination oil will remove staining?

The flashing is about 20 years old, and needs a good clean anyway.

If not patination oil, then does anyone have any other suggestions? Wire wool, kitchen scouring pads?

You can wash it down with warm soapy water and some webrax or steel wool, Don't rub it dry, once dried use patination oil and it should hide the worst of the stains, Alternatively paint it with a bituminous paint and then go over that with a solar reflective aluminium paint, I've done this on lead flashing on our house and it's still intact after five years.
