I'm planning to build a 6ft close board fence in an exposed position. I want a quality fence that will last. I've had a look at supplies from AVS. I'm not convinced about the posts because they all seem to be cut from the middle of the tree. Am I right in thinking that these posts will have less strength and be more prone to splitting? Am I unreasonable expecting to get fence posts cut from construction grade timber?

Would also appreciate advice where I can get the best quality materials in the East Midlands/East Anglia area. Thanks.

If you buy normal fence posts 100 by 100 en then 240 long they will be fine

set them for 60cm in concrte en they will outlast you

but do not forget gravel boards

so i would go for 150mm gravel boards then the 1800 fence and the rest of the post in the ground, so your fence will be slightly higher, but that is ok
