Clunking noise - Desperate - Please advise.

What non return valve did they install, is it the sprung loaded or clacker type.

The later usually is more a metal to metal tinkle/rattle.

Don't know. The system (pipes and boiler) si old. There is a rattle if the CH circulator is on the lowest speed.

but you say you can't access the valve....
if the check valve/nrv/anti-gravity valve is the problem then it needs changing simples.

If you draw the system out and follow the flows you'll work out why your getting noise when you are.
