Why is this?

Hmm, yes same here so its not just BAS.

I get little green diamonds with question marks in.

Not so much of a pain now I realise, but a major one at the time as I kept on trying ways to "fix" it as I didn't want to post something rubbish looking.

It was only when I gave up and thought "*** it, I'll just have to post it and fix it when they tell me what's wrong" that I found it had been OK all along, and it was just the preview that was buggered....

I'll prodamod to see if we can get an answer....

Good call. The mods are renowned for doing quick web software fixes.

Or you could just get over it.

That is odd, I will look into it.

If I were, would I know?

WHERE! is the God that guides my hand?
HOW! can the hands of others reach me?
WHEN! will I find what I grope for?
WHO! Who, who is going to teach me?

<alphabet-soup>

WOW!

Thats weird.

Almost as weird as how the heck did you figure that one out BAS?
Do you try combinations to see what does & does not preview?

Perhaps if you tried it with less letters in your soup and used
<number-soup> instead. :D

I would hazard a guess that its because posting of HTML tags is disabled, a common security setting thingy on web forums.

What did you see?

I tried using "code" for the first time today and nearly had to give up as what I created looked OK while writing the post, but was nothing like it in the preview and the posted version was not right either.

After many submissions and trial edits I got it right, but this is what it looked like in edit, preview and final versions:

Written version

I agree it's very misleading. It happens because the AJAX preview handles the preview differently to the way post is actually rendered. In other words it's a bug that needs sorting. It is on my list and hopefully will be resolved soon.

Wow! Two questions answered at the same time - even if one is eleven months old. See Ajax has timed out

Yes, must have missed that one  sorry. I think that would most likely have occurred when previewing a post.

The theory is; instead of loading the whole page for the preview (title, images etc) it just loads the preview box. But, when the wait for the response of the preview box is too long it assumes things have gone wrong and so times out, gives up and presents you with a not enormously helpful error message.
