Aeropress is superior imho.
For a long coffee, the cafetiere is good enough for me. It is so quick and simple and I love the robust, complex flavour.

It's an addiction thing. Once you have a decent machine, you cannot go back.
But you should read how others on here obsess about their coffee and their machines!
I was actually Googling last night why cafetiere coffee tastes different to filter coffee. Apparently, the filter paper absorbs some of the oils from the coffee grounds, which strips out some of the flavour.

Here's casperOr Casper the friendly ghost.

I have to confess to making a coffee filter with kitchen towel and the end of a plastic milk carton, once or twice. As said, my go-to, is the French Press, however - whilst away, with the caravan, I compromise a little. I use coffee bags, one bag, per two cups, in one of those two cup drinking/vacuum flask things. It after it's 4 minute brewing time, it gets poured into a mug.
I would drink, but don't enjoy as much as my French Press, Costa/Greggs/etc.,
