Cold Lay Tarmac?

Hello,

Anyone had any experience with cold lay tarmac? I have a tarmac/asphalt driveway that must have been layed pretty well as it is going on 30 years without looking too bad.

However, over the years some linear cracks have appeared, especially near the edges, which do not have any paved/concrete edging.

Apart from that and looking a bit gray and colour worn, the rest of it seems pretty sound.

As an inexpensive repair, how well do these cold lay tarmac options work out. They come in 25kg tubs for £15.

sorry have no personal experience, but the highways department use cold fill for small pothole repairs.

If you can get it warmish before throwing it down (keep it indoors for a day) and compact it well (hammering a piece of 6x2 with a sledgehammer) then it lasts ok. It will never be the same colour and will attract moss at a slightly quicker rate but there isn't really anything else suitable without doing proper hot patches (which you would need a contractor to do)

That said its more for patches and will not be as effective in narrow cracks as it relies on bonding to itself for strength.
