Cold water storage tank!!!

Hello members,

I have a pump based central heating system and gravity based hot water system. Which means I have 1 copper tank downstairs and 2 cold water open-air tanks upstairs.

Mine is a flat roof house, so I don't have a loft, the cold water tanks are on the 1st floor, on top of a cupboard/ wardrobe close to the ceiling.

One of the cold water tanks is small and I think its called feeder tank that feeds the central heating. The other one is the bigger one and I think its just cold water storage for the house, as it feeds all the cold water taps/ pipes.

My question is can I have it removed and feed all the cold water taps direct from the mains water supply. My neighbours who have had combi boilers installed have had all 3 of their tanks removed and I really need to have that BIG COLD WATER TANK removed, so I can use that space by removing that cupboard for bathroom extension.

The big cold water tank probably feeds the hot water cylinder as well, so you need it anyway for that, unless you go for a combi boiler or an unvented mains pressure hot water cylinder.

There is also an expensive solution - you can get mains hot water tanks but aroung £600. That's if you really need stored hot water.
Best bet is a combi boiler - you'll get better showers without needing a power shower as well.
