Combi Boiler keeps going out

Hi,

I have an Ariston EuroCombi styx sx20 MFFE ce Combi Boiler.

In the last couple of days the pilot light keeps going out.
If I press the ignition button underneath the boiler it re-lights.
But it seems to go out again a few hours later.
Though it did stay on all last night and went off after the first shower of the morning.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

When was the boiler last serviced or the thermocouple replaced?

I have no idea on the ThermoCouple. What is it??

It was last serviced March 2005.

I have been finding it difficult to get a plumber to work on this boiler, they all seem to refuse when I tell them what it is, or charge a fortune!

I am thinking of replacing it it this year anyway so havn't done the service.

Its a perfectly viable boiler of the more economic type.

Properly maintained its capable of further useful service. You have probably been calling ex BG engineers who are only familiar with Worcester and vaillant boilers.

Is there a date on it? I would expect between about 1994 and 1997.

I can't see a date on it. But I would say it 12 years old, from the little bits of documentation I have.

I have had the divertor valve replaced this year and I know the previous owner of the house has had trouble with it.
Thats why I thought of replacing it.

The previous owner used to have a BG service contract.
But when I came to renew it they wouldn't.
Said they won't work on this boiler any more as its cost them too much already!!!!

Anybody know of a good plumber in South Manchester/Stockport area who will do a service/repair on thsi boiler ??
