Sounds like the OP has already informed them of the install date so.....
my mates was put in ln late 05 so could he just say it was done late 04? why is it they ask for the reg info, a CP12 would ensure it was correct and legal wouldnt it?

You are missing the point, The only way this installation would be completely Legal, is if it was notified to your Local Building Control Office when it was installed this is to comply with Building Regulation Part L1 which went live on 1st April 2005. you should have a Building Control document confirming that tthis installation is to the required standard, this would have been dispatched by CORGI under the Self Certification scheme, Your problem is that CORGI no longer manage the scheme and the new keeper of the register (Gas Safe) only came to be 2 years ago, so clearly retrospective LABC certification is not going to happen is it?
