Combi-mate

Have now fitted, thanks to advice on this forum (Paul Barker in particular- thanks Paul) my Magnaclean. Blooming good it is too! Next move, some time in the future is to consider replacing my existing Aquadial ceramic scale reducer with one of the Combi mate style devices that also seem to be gaining praise from you guys.

Firstly then - is it worth changing?

Secondly, if so, there seem to be a lot of competing devices on the matter all using what seems like the same food grade pellets to reduce scale. The only major difference seems to be the running costs. Some manufacturers charge up to £20 for a year's supply of these pellets, others considerably less.

Any thoughts or experience of these?

I would NOT recommend you change a magnetic water conditioner for a polyphosphate treatment.

Quite apart from the running costs and the need to remember to refill they can give a jelly like deposit in plate heat exchangers.

The Magnaclean is only a solution to a dirty system. You should not have had a dirty solution in the beginning if it had been properly installed.

Thanks Tony. I've actually got 2 scale conditioners - one long magnetic one for the whole house incoming mains, the other (and the one that this post is about) is an Aquadial ceramic conditioner that protects the boiler.
Just how is a ceramic unit meant to do this?
Please keep this thread going, Tony, as you have presumably experienced a down side to these currently popular pellet type conditioners.
Kev - do you use the Combimate, or generic types?

I am asuming that the ceramic unit is just a magnetic one that has a ceramic magnet ( as they all do in fact ).

Dont believe all that the manufacturers tell you.

I went to an IPHE water treatment seminar where they had several "industry experts".

Not surprisingly they were all employed by their respective companies and they each had independently come to the conclusion that their own companies products were the best on the market!!!
