Hi
I've got a composite door that has 4 hinges. I've noticed that the top hinge has a bolt sticking out the top of it, which I'm pretty sure didn't used to be there, so I'm thinking its worked itself loose over time. It is pushed the plastic cover up and is sticking out the top of the hinge by about 10mm or so. If I open the door it looks like this hinge isn't actually supporting the door, there is enough slight movement of the door so see the part of the hinge that's attached to the door moving relative to the part that's attached to the frame.

I thought I'd have a go at tightening this up but none of my spanners fit the outside of it and none of my allen keys fit into it. Now this could be that maybe my tools are metric and this thing is an imperial size but I just wondered does anyone know if these things require some special tool?
I'm afraid I don't know what manufacturer it is from.

Any advise would be appreciated, door is ok for now as the other 3 hinges seem to be doing the job but I'd like to fix it before it gets any worse

cheers

It looks like the pin just needs knocking back down into the hinge.
Slide a hammer down to knock it back in.

Open the door, look at the back of the hinge, there should be a tiny grub screw, this tightens onto hinge, I guess this has been left loose, if not then loosen it with a 2mm allen key, tap the hinge pin down and retighten grub screw and your good to go

Hi.

I've got 2 queries; door catching and pin sticking out of a hinge.

I've also got a composite door that has 3 hinges. The door makes a squeaking sound when its being opened or closed as its catching on the plastic door trim at the bottom of the door frame. The bottom hinge has had the metal pin sticking out of it for a while now and I don't know if that is part of the cause of the door catching or not, but whilst looking at one issue I thought I'd look at both.

In the photos attached, photo 2 shows the bottom hinge with the pin sticking out, photo 3 shows the middle hinge which looks fine, photo 4 shows how the pin in the bottom hinge looks in the wrong position and twisted, compared to the middle hinge in photo 5, and photo 6 shows the the hinge from the other side when the door is open.

Can someone help to explain how to rectify the pin in the bottom hinge please? From the earlier comments on this thread I've realised the little grub screw is what holds the pin in place so I'm assuming if I unscrew it it will help loosen the pin to then be able to sort the pin out? What do the top and bottom screws do in photo 6? Looking down the barrel of the middle hinge it looks like they also hold the pin in place. Is this correct?

Finally, if I get the bottom hinge realigned then if that doesn't sort out the door catching at the bottom then can someone explain how the two screws with allen heads work to lift and adjust the door that exist at the top and bottom of each hinge? Is it correct that the grub screws should be loosened before any adjustments are done for the adjustments to work?

Thanks in advance.

Pic 6, turning the screws 180° moves the hinge pin sideways if you need to adjust the door laterally

Pic 5 shows where the hinge pin moves sideways

Pic 4, the allen bolt moves the hinge body up and down if you need to lift the door up or lower it

Thanks for explaining that. So it's normal for the pin to be a over to the left a bit if the door has been adjusted to be over to the left more at the bottom.

Still need to rectify the pin sticking out so will loosen the grub screw and see if that can help me to try and get it back down in the hinge.
