Hi

When using compression fittings does the copper pipe have to go in all the way to the stop to make a water tight fitting or is it the olive compressing against the edge of the fitting which makes the water tight connection ?

Needs to go all the way in (oh er) with a straight cut on the pipe - not with a hacksaw.

All the way mate! Unless you want the thing taking your wifes eye out then just halfway will do ;)

But why would you not want it all the way 'ouch'
Anyway it should be ok, like its ok to use a hacksaw.

I have halved the joint many times without problems, and a hacksaw is fine provided you cut it square and de-burr.

Some olives just fit on the end of the pipe, Honeywell AVDO's for example
