Compression Joints - how tight and which type of olive?

PTFE on olive = DIYer

Smear of jointing compound (Boss White) on olive = Pro 8)

Lets hope we are not drinking water from that joint then

Don't get any water out of my joints, drinking or otherwise. They don't leak.

If you get water out of your joints, can I suggest you take some advice from the pros on here - stop using PTFE on compression fittings.

Professional plumbers often like to boast that their joints never leak.

It isn't true.

A turn of PTFE round the seated olive is fantastic for preventing weeps and I recommend it to any DIYer who isn't to proud to take precautions against much more work in future.

I find wrapping ptfe around the fitting after I've finished is just as much use. If I'm feeling especially helpful to the customer I wrap it round the door handles, bread bin and television as this does as much to stop the fitting leaking as wrapping the olive.

Never had any issues from wrapping an olive with ptfe, seems very childish by the experts (cough)on this forum to suggest it's diy?
