computer is freezing

i havent been able to defragment or disc clean up for about a year,dont know why it just doesnt go past 1%.

Some programs - Microsoft Office is the main culprit - have an indexing feature which means they keep writing to the disk... because of this a defrag or cleanup won't work because it detects that the disk contents have changed and so it restarts itself.

There are ways of disabling this but I don't want to get anybody confused since you do have to be confident about using either regedit or msconfig(!)

All the links to the download sites are in the tutorials. I advise running through this procedure from time to time (especially the Activescan and Housecall/CWShredder scans).

Thanks for putting me right on that. As the signature tools in my profile contained the option to add links in signatures I had assumed that it was in order to do so.

Perhaps, as links are not permitted in signatures, the facility should be withdrawn from the proflie editing options.

Just a thought.
