I read the other day, so maybe it's true, that there may be another reason. Apparently the Tories changed visa rules not long before they left office. These changes didn't start having an impact on numbers until Labour had been in for some months. What are these “demented ideologies”?

The fundamental economic problems in this country and breakdown of public services aren’t caused by immigration, so stopping it won’t make everything great.
