Hi all, I'm just about to have a drive done, the guy wants to use tarmac ( I hate the stuff) he said it's cheaper and lasts longer, I was going to ask a ready mix company how much it would cost for the amount I need ( thats the problem, I don't know how to work it out)
The drive is 10ft wide X 7ft long X depth ( what should the thickness be ) ?how many metres would I need?... approx
Thanks
Lynn

Tarmac to last longer than concrete??!! Get a new contractor. As to depth I am unsure - most concrete drives I am called in to take up are 4 to 6" deep over a hardcore base, but don't rely on that. Someone else will help out here.

150mm (6") concrete should be ok, make sure you have enough well compacted hardcore to suite the soil.

7ft (2100mm) long wont be enough to park most cars on. You should aim for at least 4800mm

Pathways and shed bases should be 100mm / 4 inches and driveways must be at least 150mm / 6 inches thick.

You can reduce the thickness of the concrete to 4 inches if you add steel re-enforcing mesh into it but i would personally go for 6 inches. You would therefore need 1 cubic metre of concrete.
