Hi

My first post. Thank you for accepting me.

Looking to insulate the bedroom floor before putting new carpet down as old carpet and underlay was damp to touch nearer outside wall part of house. Didn't help that wardrobe was on top flush against wall so circulation was bad but I will be moving that to other side of room where it's warmer

I've removed carpet and is a 60s bungalow.

Solid concrete floor with some sort of level tiles on top (many broken) then 6mm blue underlay and carpet on top. All wooden carpet grips in that corner were rotten with damp.

Any advice to make the floor warmer before laying down new underlay and new carpet?

No leaks and walls skimmed in past feels dry to touch. No radiators close.

Thanks

Andy

What is underneath that room? Is it next to a bathroom or kitchen? How old is the house?

Edit
Oh, a 1960's bungalow, so concrete floor laid on the ground, I presume.

Does that room get steamy windows?

Water vapour is lighter than air so tends to rise towards the ceiling, so condensation on floors is not common.

Edit
I think the damp is coming from outside or underneath.

Can you post some pics of the other side of those walls. All the way up to the roof and gutter, and down to the ground or paving. Include waste and soil pipes, overflow pipes, drains, manholes etc. Point out where the DPC is.

Hello. House is a bungalow and Nothing underneath.

This is a bedroom.

Yes winter time the stable door which is our bedroom window gets water on the bottom of both Payne of glass but we use karcher to remove. It is our bedroom.

Wardrobe was flat against both walls but we will be moving this as was little white mouldy.

Walls skimmed and had some sort of silver backed insulation in that corner

Thank you for your questions

Forgot to say zero sun gets on this part of the house. Always in shade

Neighbours are joined on and they have no issues with damp or floods etc

From the inside that outside wall is colder to touch but no damp patches etc. It's just the floor where wardrobe was on top of. Damp underlay and carpet

No Dpm under the sub floor in most cases. Sometimes old thin visqueen which has perished. Really needs a Dpm sandwich

Fair point. Old dpf can only just be seen in that corner. Rest of house extended or old facias or York stone brickwork removed and replaced with insulation behind. What's the score for that corner? Lay something down before underlay?

Edit.... Sorry i see your recommendation.
